SALONG - Orang Ulu Burial Hut


Salong, the Orang Ulu burial hut where the bones of past chief stored in jar is kept in the hut.  This is a common sight along the upper Rejang River usually located in front of the longhouse.  This practice was done in the olden days and only affordable by the village chief and aristocrats.  There are 2 types, ie. supported by a single wooden beam intricately carved (above pic) and the other is on the ground where the jars containing the bones are buried under the groun (pic below).
